However, near the end of the story, it's revealed that Wesker is actually spying on Umbrella as well, and he will steal relevant research data for another third party. As with other Resident Evil characters, not much is revealed regarding Wesker's backstory - including his real name.
However, Oswell Spencer did take Wesker from his parents as a young child thanks to his advanced genetics. Throughout his childhood, the Spencer Foundation would fund Wesker's training and education. Eventually, Umbrella infected Wesker with the Progenitor Virus to see if he can outlast the strain and gain its superhuman benefits.
Unfortunately, only Albert and his fellow eugenics sibling Alex would survive the Progenitor Virus. Aside from his rather tragic canonical backstory, Wesker would have a more grounded history that would explain his unique position in both Umbrella Corporation and STARS. In turn, Iwao's interpretation of Wesker would hint at other bioweapons-invested groups outside Umbrella Corporation. Unfortunately, none of the games would mention this path.
Wesker's rise to fame as a Resident Evil villain would come courtesy of the Flagship creative team. Flagship intended Wesker to return as a secondary villain in Code: Veronica. Thanks to their ideas, Wesker would come back as a mutant. Wesker would reveal that he infected himself with a virus before the Tyrant's attack , allowing him to cheat death as the virus grew inside of him. Moreover, Flagship also intended Resident Evil 0 to also feature Wesker as a villain.
However, the game would eventually revolve around James Marcus, one of Umbrella's founders. Wesker would remain in the game, but this time as a supporting character. It's in this game that would reveal that both William Birkin and Wesker served as students in the executive training school that Marcus himself headed.
Interestingly, Wesker's appearance in the "Separate Ways" storyline of Resident Evil 4 served as yet another means to further his villainous ways. In Mikami's original iteration of RE4 , Leon would discover that not only does Ada report to Wesker, but his "teammate" Jack Krauser has his loyalties with Wesker as well.
He starts as a basic bad guy who betrays his team and eventually gets killed. At least at first, it seems that this was going to be the end for the character.
However, Resident Evil's plot end up becoming convoluted and over the top. After the original Resident Evil, Capcom provided more information about him. They expanded his backstory and changed him each time he showed up in another game. In the end, he became a completely different character. Because of his latest depiction, players often remember him as a mad scientist who became a monster.
Wesker has an impressive intellect, but that is not always how he is portrayed. Spencer chose him to become a Wesker due to his advantageous genes. The games sometimes show him as a rational bad guy but also as an over-the-top, classic villain. Among all the other kids within the eugenics project, he was standing out significantly. The Spencer Foundation gave Albert the best possible education they could buy.
Being a genius, he got a doctorate as a virologist when he was only seventeen years old. Doctor Wesker and Doctor Birkin were both brilliant kids. William Birkin managed to get his doctorate at the age of At some point, they were both assigned to the Arklay Laboratory. Back then, Umbrella was considering going for the development of an Ebola-based viral weapon.
William and Albert managed to successfully splice the genes from the Ebola virus onto a stolen t-Virus strain. It resulted in the creation of an altered virus that caused humans to survive the infection.

Javier Hidalgo was the drug lord of Sacred Snakes cartel and long time customer of Umbrella. With its facilities destroyed and Wesker in control, he sold bio- weapons to Hidalgo who later became suspicious of the price surge in Russia.
However, Wesker persuaded him to refrain from buying from Umbrella as their 3rd-party Asian broker was investigating him. The drug dealer went berserk after his daughter ran away and unleashed the t-Veronica virus. Wesker stood by as the US counter team was dispatched and killed Hidalgo. Jake Muller was raised in Eastern Europe in Edonia by his mother who got pregnant by the then Umbrella intelligence agent, Wesker. Muller later worked as a mercenary only concerned about monetary gains.
